DEEP DIVE: Cyr Wheel Lecture by Marica & Jef (IT + BE)

How can physical research be applied on an apparatus in contemporary circus – and how does it transform the way an apparatus is used?
Physical research is one of the central pillars of contemporary circus. Through in-depth exploration of the apparatus, artists develop new movement vocabularies that influence technique, dramaturgy, presence, and artistic identity.
In this lecture, Marica and Jef present the research processes that led them to develop two distinct languages within the same discipline: the Cyr wheel. They expose how individual practices emerge through sustained investigation and how these singular approaches can coexist and interact within a shared performative space.
By reflecting on their collaborative process, the lecture addresses broader questions around authorship, hybridity, and the evolution of circus language within contemporary creation.
(1,5 hours, target group: Mixed, both professional circus artists, students from AFUK and other types of performing artists).
