RED HAIRED MEN / not standing / Alexander Vantournhout (BE)

Choreography and Russian avant-garde poetry, acrobatics and magic!

In Red Haired Men you get it all!

With his usual ingenuity, Alexander Vantournhout presents us with an explosive cocktail, consisting of the absurdist poetry of Daniil Kharms and an almost mathematical language of movement, evoking memories of Eisenstein’s cinematic universe. Humor, nonsense and physical equilibrium merge into a higher entity

“There was a red haired man who had no eyes or ears. He didn’t have hair either, so he was called red haired theoretically. He couldn’t speak, since he didn’t have a mouth. He didn’t have a nose either. He didn’t even have any arms or legs. He had no stomach and he had no back and he had no spine and he had no innards whatsoever. There was nothing! Therefore we don’t even know whom we are even talking about. It’s better that we don’t talk any more about him.” (Daniil Kharms)

not standing is a Belgian company directed by Alexander Vantournhout, who studied dance at P.A.R.T.S. (Performing Arts Research and Training Studios, Brussels), and single wheel at ESAC (Ecole Supérieure des Arts du Cirque, Brussels). The combination of both studies, the former focused on artistic reflection, the latter focused on physical excellence, creates the perfect link between circus and dance. A. V. received several prizes and destinctions: Theater Aan Zee 2015 and Theaterfestival 2016 prizes, selection for Aerowaves Twenty16 and Circus Next Laureate 2014, among others.

Performs at Den Grå Hal, Refshalevej 2, 1436 København K.
